about

from early writing in journals…

My first memories of creating, making, iterating stem from my childhood love of writing and journaling. My writing felt like a natural extension of myself, where the thoughts tucked away in notebooks detailed my days and dreams.

to layouts on a high school newspaper…

As a high schooler, it was natural to join the writing staff of the school newspaper. Once I become an editor (and later Editor-in-Chief), I had to move away from writing and towards designing the actual layout of the pages. Combining writing with layout design was not what I expected when I joined the staff, but holding print versions of digital designs sparked my design practice. I feel very comfortable giving high school newspaper a lot of credit in my life.

to design.

I feel so lucky to be able to explore design as an adult — various people and experiences in my early 20’s sparked my return back to design. Diving into product design through my graduate studies at Stanford, co-designing with fellow creatives, and building relationships through building together have been experiences that have helped me understand what it means to be “Izma”.
